Happy Autumn

Don't you love autumn? I love it all. I love the gorgeous colors, the fall scents, the sound of whispering leaves, and the hint of change that's everywhere. Today, I'd love to share an autumn poem with you. I hope you enjoy it.

Song of Autumn

I love a touch of autumn and the crispness in the air,
when winter’s icy fingers leave a message here and there.
The emerald days of summer begin to melt away,
and nature’s finest paintbrush is invited for the day.
Rich color spills across the earth and sings a song of change,
while summer takes a final bow and dances off the stage.
Soft color enters shyly and just winks to us at first,
then gathers courage, begins to sings, and finally just bursts.
At touch of gold, a hint of rust, a smattering of yellow,
a bit of pink, a dab of red, and just a smidge of purple.
All those color voices make a chorus for our eyes
with melody and harmony completing the surprise.
An autumn wind hums softly. There is music in the breeze.
There is singing, and there’s dancing, and there’s magic in the trees.
The color song crescendos, and the autumn dance begins,
and the forest ladies shimmer in the music of the wind.
Their leafy bodies tremble to the rhythm of the day,
as they curtsy in full color, and they pirouette and sway.
Oh, I love the dance of autumn and the music for my eyes,
the symphony of color under smoky autumn skies.
I am dazzled by the yellows and the crimsons and the browns,
when all the forest ladies put on their dancing gowns.

For the Children; second verse

Music washes from the soul
the dust of everyday living.

Isn't that beautiful?
I don’t know who said it, but I love it.
If anyone knows where it came from, please let me know.

Here are the rest of the children’s poems. Enjoy!

Parker

Your
amazing fingers
fill The air
with delightful music,
like the
cheery song
Of a handsome bird,
in flight.

Hanna

Your music melted my heart
like butter on a sunny day.
Your music danced in my ears
like the laughter of children.
Your music teased my mind
like a cool brook splashing over rocks.
Your music makes me smile.

Angeline

Your song
reminds me of
a butterfly,
in gentle flight,
bathed in sunlight,
enjoying the breeze,
tasting of flowers.
Like the butterfly,
you can go
wherever you choose.
Choose well.

William

Because you listen well,
to teacher,
you can do anything
she asks.
If fingers are obedient
to you,
their master,
they will be good servants.
Like you,
they can do anything.
Just ask.

Ryan

Your bright music
brightens my day
like the rainbow
brightens the sky.
Your bright eyes
light up your face
like the stars
light up the night.

Sara

Your gentle song
comes peacefully
on the breeze.
It refreshes me
and rests my body
and my mind.
It feels good.

Alex

Your music
feels like poetry,
with rhyme
and meter,
pulse and lyrics;
a musical message.
You are the messenger.
Choose carefully
your sound
so you can
send your message
with clarity.

Arielle

Your sunny song
made me smile.
Your sweet smile
made my day.
Your graceful fingers
make the piano sing.

Nathan

Your gentle melody
reminds me of
ocean waves;
quiet, yet strong;
rhythmic, yet free;
I can almost
taste the salt
and see the gulls.

Andrew

Your music
carried me
far away;
to the moon,
to the planets
and the stars.
I wanted to stay there
but earth’s gravity
brought me home
to feel the sun
on my face.

Have a musical day!

A Winter Kind of Magic

There’s nothing like the stillness of a quiet winter day,
When nature’s temper tantrum has blown itself away,
And all that’s left of anger is the biting winter air,
And frosty white reminders painted everywhere.
Just yesterday my forest friends stood shivering in the cold
Their spindly arms stark naked; their noble trunks stood bold.
Today those same bare twigs are plump with winter’s finest lace
Sparkling in the winter sun, who shyly shows her face.
Each forest lady wears a crown of diamonds and pearls.
Each royal beauty nods and winks at other stately girls.
There’s a special kind of quiet when the earth is robed in white.
Peace whispers to us softly as we marvel at the sight.
A thoughtful kind of silence fills our thoughts with gentle things.
We listen to the stillness as our hearts begin to sing.
It’s a time for winter solitude and for sweet memories.
It’s a perfect time to ponder; time for simplicity.
A winter bird chirps softly a cheerful winter song
And I feel a kind of winter calm; a winter kind of strong.
There’s a winter kind of magic and a winter kind of sound
When, in winter, forest ladies put on their royal gowns.

I tried writing a winter poem in Arkansas, but with no snow, I didn't get very far. This morning as I looked out at the breathtaking beauty of a snow covered earth, I knew that today was a perfect day for writing a winter poem.
